Before I begin, I’d just like to say that Zombieland is no Shaun of the Dead. However, it does come pretty darn close in the laughs department. Instead of being a straight serious zombie film, Zombieland is more in line with Shaun of the Dead in that it takes humor from the subject matter. It’s a zombie comedy. Most of the humor stems from the four main characters and the situation(s) they find themselves in, yet it never manages to be over the top. Woody Harrelson is a blast to watch as Tallahassee, the redneck zombie killing Twinkie-loving B.A. As is Eisenberg, the nerdy awkward Columbus who shares his set of rules for surviving through the zombie outbreak throughout the film (Rule No. 2 – Double Tap!). Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin are the perfect balance as two con artists who meet up with Tallahassee and Columbus. There is plenty of gore for the horror crowd and plenty of laughs for the comedy crowd. There is one scene in particular featuring a certain actor (I won’t reveal who… because that would ruin the fun!) that is a hoot to watch. I could not stop laughing. So if you’re in the mood for a fun, entertaining film, go check out Zombieland.

The Final Destination films are an interesting sort. They follow the same basic premise: the main character has a premonition of a fatal accident, they cause a commotion that prevents them plus several others from being involved in said accident, “Death” begins to hunt down the survivors by using elaborate setups that causes their demise, all meant to look like accidents. I can say I’ve enjoyed the first two for their creativeness and the third is no different. Where the first film had a overall dark feel to it and the second had a somewhat lightheartedness to it, the third dips back to the first in terms of darkness. As one of the characters states after an accident involving a stalled car and a motor fan in a drive thru, “Can’t you feel how brutal that was?”, the accidents in this film are pretty bad. Along with the drive-thru scene, there’s a tanning bed malfunction that claims the lives of two girls and a head crushing involving weights. The Final Destination films are well know for the elaborate death scenes and I think that’s why so many enjoy going to watch, they’re little thrill rides. Final Destination 3, while not really offering anything new, is fun and entertaining. Of course, that is if you can stomach a little gore here and there.
