Amityville Horror - Katch ‘em, Kill ‘em

May 18th, 2005 | Uncategorized | posted by Misbah

Plot line: Amityville Horror is a legend loosely based on the true-life murders which occurred in the early 70’s. After the slaying of the Defeo family by the oldest son, the house was considered to be haunted. One year after the murder the Lutz’s move in, taking into mind that “people kill people, not houses”
Going in with high expectations and already frightened by the thoughts that others had placed in my mind, the Amityville Horror achieved somewhat mediocre appraisal from me. Though the thought of it was more frightening than the movie itself, it was still satisfactory. Each plotline started was completed by the end; it was a nicely wrapped package with a horrific bow on top. I did very much enjoy the references to other horror movies, such as “13 Ghosts” in the final sense. One of the best aspects to the movie was the characters themselves: Ryan Reynolds, playing George Lutz, gave a good performance; I’d have to say Reynolds character was by far the most convincing. Chloe Moretz gave a fine performance as Chelsea Lutz. As said before, this movie portrays a horrific ideal thus making it frightening but once getting the courage to get into that movie thread you see the magician’s trick revealed. You see the trick mirror used to show you that the elephant was gone. With just a few surprises here and there, Andrew Douglas, director, managed to rack in $23,507,007 in the first week alone. Though not the best I have seen in horror genre, it is one I would recommend to watch. Just remember it’s not one to make you pee in your pants, so please leave the diapers at home.
