Houston + Press + Haunts

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Wow, the word “Press” is kind of weird. Ever thought about one word long enough to think the word is simply not natural to the human language? Yea? No? Well, I sat here and looked at the devilish cover of today’s edition of the HoustonPress and thought to myself how closely the main words on the cover reminded me of HoustonHaunts, except for that pesky little “press” right in the middle of it all. Which of course began all of “press” contemplation.

Sorry for the mindless rambling…here’s my point:

I thought you should check out the excellent coverage the HoustonPress gave our excellent industry. Pick up your very own personal copy of the alt-rag (at many fine dining locations around our fine city) OR check out the excellent story here.

But wait there’s more! Check out the mini-story regarding the haunt industries “passionate” actors. Scaring you straight from the very bottom of what some would call a heart…just the way we like it!

Phobia takes #10

Monday, October 16th, 2006

While we were surfing the net, we came across another one of those addicting (but entertaining) Yahoo! Buzz lists. This time the list was featuring buzzing haunted houses. Low and behold, I was very amused to find that Houston was represented with Phobia ranking in at 10th on the top 20 list. See the list here.

Friday the 13th

Friday, October 13th, 2006

I couldn’t imagine not writing something here to celebrate this day, so I checked out how often Friday the 13th happens to fall in October.

  • The last October/Friday the 13th occured in 2000
  • The next October/Friday the 13th will not happen again for 11 years!
  • 2017 and 2023 are the next two times this rare event occurs.

So, what are you guys doing for this rare October/Friday the 13th combo?

Kiss and shake

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

What? Not holding a Friday the 13th horror movie marathon for the rare Friday the 13th that falls in October? Ok then, go to Fear Houston at the Northwest Mall where they are hosting Mini Kiss. Supposedly this thing is going to be pretty cool with 3 opening acts for the Kiss tribute band and “HUGE light show” as the owners of Fear Houston have put it. See more info here.

In other less important news, we went out and tried that pumpkin pie shake from Jack in the Box like we promised. We had the option not to have the whipped cream and cherry on top, but ARE YOU KIDDING? We definitely went with the extras on this puppy.

…And the pumpkin pie shake was goooood.

We will be adding more events soon!

Yahoo! Pumpkins

Monday, October 9th, 2006

We’ve watched Yahoo! over the last week or so “pumpkin push” everything from stories about a U.S. pumpkin shortage to a new pumpkin sized record. Sometimes we get so envolved with trying to put a decent (and perdy lookin’) site out there for you guys, we almost forget about Halloween altogether.

Yesterday I was sitting at my desk looking out at FM 1960 and thought about the Jack in the Box that resides down the street. My friend had one of their pumpkin shakes which brought up another thought…wasn’t carving up a pumpkin one of the best parts of Halloween when I was a kid? I think I’ll go get one of those shakes tommorrow, I’ll be sure to give you an update…

For now, here is some more of Yahoo’s pumpkin-pushin-buzz: 30-ways-to-eat-a-pumpkin

…and here is an interesting looking pumpkin website: www.pumpkinhunt.com

Forums

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

The forums have now been closed once again. We do not have time to moderate the boards and there is simply too much fighting. No one is able to garner good information from the forums, so we saw no need to continue it. Thank you.
